- YAYOI KUSAMA
Starting around the age of 10, Yayoi Kusama began creating fantastical images centering on polka-dot and stripe-pattern motifs. She relocated to the United States in 1957, and her works featuring flat-surface formats, three-dimensional shapes, performances, antiwar efforts and other forms and types of expression soon garnered widespread popularity, after which she showed her pieces at museums and galleries throughout North America and Europe.
Kusama's works, characterized by richly diverse expression, gave birth to energetic and utterly original worlds that were immensely popular among viewers. Exhibitions of her new pieces as well as retrospective exhibitions were held at museums around the world year after year, consistently earning immense praise and drawing large numbers of visitors.
In 2012, Kusama released her "LOUIS VUITTON + YAYOI KUSAMA Collection," a collaborative series of Louis Vuitton products. In 2016, she was honored with the Order of Culture. The YAYOI KUSAMA: My Eternal Soul exhibition will be held from February 22 to May 22, 2017 at The National Art Center, Tokyo.
