So said King Edward VIII to the people of Britain on December 11, 1936 during a speech marking his abdication of the throne.
He did so in pursuit of a forbidden love with the American Wallis Simpson, who was married to her second husband at the time.
When asked by the royal family and prime minister to make a choice between the throne and love, Edward VIII chose the latter, abdicating so he could marry Wallis.
