Divine Messengers' Day Off: Gekko Numata Exhibition
Jan. 7 (Thu.) to Jan. 13 (Wed.)

In my works, whose spatial compositions have been influenced by the Japanese painting (Nihonga) genre, I strive to depict animals in vivid and lively ways.
In recent years, I have taken inspiration from the wood carvings, paintings on fusuma (sliding partitions/doors) and other types of art seen in Shinto shrines and Buddhist temples.
The various messengers of the gods work hard listening to people's wishes and prayers, but I wanted to show how they spend their free time on days off.
This is what I thought about when creating the underlying narrative behind these pieces.
