SPECTRUM DOODLE BOYS SPECTRUM DOODLE BOY SPECTRUM DOODLE BOY SPECTRUM SUNLIGHT SPECTRUM DOODLE BOY SPECTRUM DOODLE BOY

Ko Kikuchi is currently engaged in the creation of paintings and pictures based on a "spectrum" theme. In this case, "spectrum" takes on a meaning figuratively similar to that of light dispersion: the artist takes an approach of representing, in overlapping manner, a wide range of disparate materials and cultural elements and representations on a flat canvas surface, with equal importance assigned to each. Kikuchi breaks down and views from various angles the natural scenery, human forms and other elements we encounter in abundance throughout our daily lives, and reconstructs them as new pictorial creations. Moreover, each work is made using painting and drawing materials, as well as other materials such as paper and cork, that have been tried and tested over the years to confirm durability, color expression and other such factors. As a result, his art exudes a light and approachable feel while also realizing long-lasting durability. The artist's outstanding color sensibilities, based on flat, two-dimensional interpretations of compositional elements, make it so each work seems to expand endlessly, continuing well beyond the edges of the canvas. Amid the chaos of modern times, the various objects and figures depicted by Ko Kikuchi inspire viewers to more profoundly contemplate humankind and our nation, and even expand their cogitations to outer space.
