Reita MORIYA represents the first member worldwide in a new generation of plasterers—one who fuses traditional Japanese indigo coloring with modern plastering work.
This exhibition embodies a tireless journey to explore Japan's unique aesthetic sensibilities in regard to the color blue, which are unparalleled elsewhere in the world.
One artist has brought together innovative techniques and unique ideas to achieve new forms of expression using indigo, which has a long and deep-reaching history.
It is his sincere hope that, just as we see shades of blue when looking at the sky and the sea, his indigos will help you to recall the beautiful colors of your personal memories.
The works of this plaster artist speak to the viewer in abstract ways, while at times reaching out profoundly in concrete and tangible terms as well.
Ai is a homonym for both "indigo" and "love" in Japanese; it is MORIYA's hope that your day-to-day life will be filled with ai (indigo), and also with ai (love).
