The bijin-ga ("depictions of beautiful women") subgenre originates in the Ukiyo-e print genre of the Edo Period (1603–1868). In recent years, fans of this subgenre have increased in number, spreading the art's popularity. This exhibition features a wide range of bijin-ga created by artists who are garnering increasing popularity in the contemporary art world. The artists employ various expressive technique and motifs, with each work serving as a modern-day example of bijin-ga that expresses their individual aesthetic ideals.
