“ULTRA HIGH: Night Before the Big Break” is an exhibition held under the auspices of the TV program “Night Before the Big Break,” currently airing on BS Fuji. It presents the current positions of artists who have honed their craft over many years, building solid careers and reputations, as they approach their next leap forward.
The artists gathered here have already proven their abilities. However, this exhibition does not capture “completion.” Rather, it captures the tense moment when experience, technique, and ideas crystallize at high density, propelling expression toward a new critical point—the very “Night Before the Big Break.”
While “high resolution” has become commonplace in our digital society, the ULTRA HIGH in this exhibition
does not merely refer to visual precision. These artists delve into the depths of their subjects, visualizing thought, emotion, social structures, and the essence of matter with overwhelming focus and purity. Their expressions simultaneously embody the composure born of maturity and the urgency to step into the next phase.
Kotaro Hoshiyama delves into human identity through multilayered portraits, while Keita Sagaki unsettles our sense of scale through intricate accumulations of lines. Tartaros conceptually interrogates the essence of social systems, and Reimon Motoyanagi, powerfully fixes the energy inherent in matter. Masanori Koike sharply evokes the presence of life and the reality of existence through minute three-dimensional expressions.
This exhibition is not a retrospective of achievements. It is an attempt to present the moment just before moving to the next phase, when expression is most intensely refined. ““ULTRA HIGH: Night Before the Big Break”—we invite you to experience its tension and density.
