GIRUVI was captivated by the form and vitality of plants after encountering a single cactus. Combining this fascination with the street sensibility cultivated through graffiti
and skateboarding, the artist uses spray paint, stencils, and silkscreen printing to depict “low-maintenance, evergreen plants.” In this exhibition, “GROW ON THE WALL,” GIRUVI conveys the profound depth and vibrant energy of plants into our everyday lives through a collection of distinctive plants that seem to take root right on the walls.

GIRUVI
GIRUVI is an artist who creates works that blend street culture—such as graffiti and skateboarding—with plants. Inspired by a single cactus purchased at a local flower shop, he became immersed in the world of plants. Based on the concept of “low-maintenance, evergreen plants,” he expresses his vision using stencils, spray paint, and silkscreen printing. For his silkscreen work, he handles everything from plate making to printing himself. He received the Independent Tokyo Jury Special Award in 2021. In recent years, he has continued to exhibit his work in solo and group exhibitions, as well as at art fairs, both in Japan and abroad.
