Based in Nishijin, Kyoto, Hiroto Rakusho has elevated traditional Japanese craftsmanship into contemporary art through the use of gold and silver leaf, techniques that have been passed down through generations in Japan.
Since its creation in 1996, MR-G has pursued the ultimate balance of strength and beauty, combining an innovative structure that challenges conventional ideas with the functional beauty of Japanese design.
In this exhibition, the beauty of Japanese leaf, whose appearance changes with the light, is used to express the concepts of time, memory, prayer, and a Japanese aesthetic consciousness passed down into the future.
The exhibition will also feature MR-G “YU,” a special collaboration model with MR-G, the highest-end line of G-SHOCK.
This special presentation brings together the “strength” embodied by G-SHOCK and the “beauty of light and time” expressed through Hiroto Rakusho’s leaf work, creating a unique harmony between traditional craftsmanship and cutting-edge watchmaking.

🔶Rakusho Hiroto

born in 1962 in Nishijin, Kyoto.
He is a Master of Traditional Crafts and a Master Craftsman of Kyoto. He studied under his father, Jisaku Nishiyama, to learn the techniques of gold leaf craftsmanship. In 2002, he established his own brand, “Hiroto Rakusho.” In addition to creating numerous original works using his unique techniques, he collaborates with designers and artists across various genres. He is also actively involved in a wide range of activities both in Japan and abroad, including participation in digital archiving projects aimed at preserving cultural properties. He continues to create new forms of expression that transcend the boundaries of the beauty of gold leaf cultivated for Nishijin-ori.
